Trust in Me

Two Voice example, English project.

Come with me.

I’m afraid.

I will lead you.

I’m not ready.

Ready as you ever will be.

What about other kids? What about other kids?

Their interpretations of you mean nothing.

What will they think?

What does it matter?

I feel so lost.

I am the way.

I don’t know who to trust.

I am the truth.

I don’t know what to do.

I am the life.

Take my hand. Take my hand.

Temptation

Personification example, English project

The thought casually slipped into her head.
It beckoned her, pleaded her agreement.
You won’t regret it, it swooned,
Nothing bad will happen.
The idea slowly came to control
Swallowing her rationality
Dominating her thoughts
It bellowed, luring her with a promise
Of fun and popularity,
Assuring her safety.
She put up a weak defense.
The monster of her mind
Positioned itself armed at the barricade.
Why not? it crooned.
Why? her victory.

Shelby Street Serenade

Childhood Memory example, English project.

I still recall my father’s voice:
“Come on, little Kell-Bell!”
I hear his laugh, he smiles at me
I breathe in his aftershave smell.
He bows to my mother, kisses her hand,
“May I have this dance?”
He kisses her lips, I hide my eyes
Five-year-olds don’t like romance.
The song ends, he takes my hand,
“Do you waltz as well as your mother?”
Though the song is slow, he whirls me about
Leaving me begging for another.
Taught me to dance, my parents did
‘Twas quite the living room show
And when I find my partner for life
I hope he dances slow.

Reconciliation

Free Choice example, English project.

I walk into the church
And I am ashamed.
I bow down before Him
And I am welcomed.
I get on my knees
And I am recalling.
I focus in adoration
And I am warmed.
I wait my turn
And I am not afraid.
I rise up and I enter
And I am nervous.
I confess to the priest
And I am relieved.
I listen to his advice
And I am penitent.
I shake his hand and thank him
And I go in peace.

Tribute to Ogden Nash

Poem using 2 similes for English project.

Candy is dandy
But liquor is quicker.
Ogden Nash is handy
Because his writings aren’t thicker.
This playful writer
Born in 1902
Thought poetry that was lighter
Was long overdue.
I admired his collection
Like a fat kid with cake
This new found affection
Put my reputation at stake.
I took to it like a duck takes to water,
‘Dumb Poetry’ has never seemed hotter.

Jungle

Personification example for English project.

To me, he is a jungle
An exotic land enticing my senses.
His eyes, the stirring waters
Reflecting my image, immersing my soul.
His voice, the soft whisper
Of the leaves serenading the sun.
Vines for arms has he,
Capturing, entangling, holding me tight.
A flush races down my spine
When he bears his smile, a warm breeze.
And so long as she dreams of a different jungle,
Any lion can sleep tonight.

Friday Night Lights

Creative Writing fair entry, English project

“Suit up!” says the director, facing his band
The scoreboard clock reads 4::00
The cheerleaders scatter, it’s their turn to rest
From urging the team to score.
Numb’ring a hundred, they clear the stands
All glamoured in red, white, and blue
Out on the track, they form a crowd
To watch what Visitor can do.
Focused and listening, they intently watch
Catching what’s right and what’s wrong
Nervousness fills the stomach of Home
As Visitor ends their last song.
In perfect formation, the band is set
Waiting for their cue to begin
One long whistle lets the drumline know
With a cadence, to march the band in.
Another whistle, heads are down
Parade Rest is the command
Four short tweets, at Attention now
Ready to win is the band.
With a blast they start the show
Marching and playing in beat
Home is winning the halftime show
Visitor can feel their defeat.
Three songs later, the band is done
Quietly, they march off the field
Smiling and proud, they know too well
Home’s best has been revealed.
Third quarter starts and the kids all run
To the food stand for a snack
They’re done for the night and played a good show
Next Friday night, they’ll be back.

EX, prefix, from the Greek, 'Ek'

Example of alliteration for English project

Excitedly I examined the exhumed ex-boyfriend
Exhausting myself with this exotic exercise
Searching for an expression of an execution
Or the exact example of an exorcism
Exploring for an exposition
Explaining his excruciating death
I exclaimed during this expedition
When I exploited an explicit exhibit
My expectations of an exaggerated extremity
Were met with an exasperated expert in existing

Cycle

Written for 2008 Creative Writing fair project. Reused in an English Poetry project this year.

Cool air, cold feet,
Shoveling snow, seeing sleet.
Melting ice, rainy days,
Blooming blossoms chasing greys.
Singing birds, gardeners planting,
Nature walks, puppies panting.
Graduation, parties at pools,
Away to camp, cleaning schools.
Chilly weather, leaves fall,
Coat shopping, school hall.
Christmastime, snow boots,
Mall frenzy, Santa suits.
Cool air, cold feet,
Shoveling snow, seeing sleet.

To the three that read what I write:

This blog is set up for me to post poetry so I can delete it from my Word Processor files. You guys can read it, though, if you like.
